Staying Creative at Home with Toy Photography

with Stephanie Drake

With a camera in one hand and a toy in the other, there’s no need to venture far from home to  keep your photography skills sharp and practice some creative photography! In this  presentation, Stephanie will walk you through how you can use all the traditional elements of  creating an impactful image – composition, lighting, storytelling, subject choice, perspective, etc  – to hone your skills on a smaller scale in the comfort of your air-conditioned home. No matter  what subjects you typically photograph, “toying” around with the techniques covered in this  presentation will translate into better control, understanding and creativity in your own  photography.

Stephanie Drake has been toying around with photography for over 25 years, starting as a photographer for her high school newspaper and eventually working as a portrait and wedding photographer, a concert and event photographer, and volunteering with animal shelters taking pet portraits. She’s been published in numerous media outlets covering major concerts and arts and entertainment news, as well as featured in sports magazines, including the cover image of an issue that is displayed at the World Disc Golf Hall of Fame Memorial Museum. Stephanie has served on the Orlando Camera Club Board of Directors for the past 4 years in the roles of Competitions Director, President, and (currently) Program Director. Stephanie got into toy photography back in 2021 thanks to her kids and has embraced the philosophy that you’re never too old to play with toys. You can find more of her toy photography on Instagram.
